Where & When is the World Matchplay Darts 2024 Held?

The World Matchplay Darts 2024 will take place at the Winter Gardens, Blackpool, from the 13th-21st July 2024.

Dan Dawson spoke about the rich history of the Winter Gardens venue in which the tournament will be held in a recent Chatting Bull Darts Blog.

What is the World Matchplay Darts 2024 Format?

The World Matchplay Darts has a slightly different format to most Darts tournaments, all games have to be won by two clear legs, no matter what round the game is being played in.

If no one is winning by two clear legs, then the game will be extended by a maximum of six extra legs before a sudden death leg is required to decide the game.

For example, in a first round match which is first to 10 legs, a player has to win 10-8 to win outright. Sudden death is introduced if neither player has a 2 leg advantage by the time the score reaches 12-12.

Format for the rest of the tournament:

With each subsequent round the legs needed to win increase.

  • First Round - First to 10 Legs
  • Second Round - First to 11 Legs
  • Quarter-Finals - First to 16 Legs
  • Semi-Finals - First to 17 Legs
  • Final First - to 18 Legs
