RICKY CHILTON
WHAT IS RICKY CHILTON'S BACKSTORY?
At the age of 14 I was diagnosed with an aggressive form of bone Cancer, Ewings Sarcoma, and given 6 months to live. I was put on a trial treatment for the cancer, and had my hip and femur replaced by titanium prosthesis which saved my life. This cut short my Rugby and Football career aspirations. At 18 I began playing in local pub leagues.
In 2007, aged 34, I had my left hip, pelvis and leg amputated following complications with the prosthesis and cancer. It took me a couple of years after that to learn how to play darts again, learning how to balance still enough on one leg to aim and throw. Because of the high level of amputation with no stump left I am unable to wear a prosthetic leg.
At the end of 2015 I was instrumental in setting up the British Disability Darts Association (BDDA) being one of the founding members.

WHICH COMPETITONS DOES RICKY COMPETE IN?
- Standing- in Cornwall Super league and West Penwith League.
- Wheelchair- in World ParaDarts ranking tournaments.
WHAT IS RICKY'S PRACTICE ROUTINE?
Practise in 15-minute slots, with this being the length of an average game. I have to practice both standing and, in a wheelchair, as the throw is different so I focus on the up coming tournaments and if it is a ParaDarts tournament I practice more from the wheelchair.
HOW OFTEN DOES RICKY PRACTICE?
2/4 sessions a day.
WHO IS RICKY'S FAVOURITE PLAYER?
Tony Oshea.
WHAT DOES RICKY DO OUTSIDE OF DARTS?
I am a mechanic so you will find me in the workshop fixing and servicing motorbikes and garden Machinery for friends.
I also help make equipment for ParaDarts, such as, the specially lowered board frames for wheelchair tournaments.
Before any of that I was a fisherman and still have a passion for boats and until recently I would be found down in St Ives harbour repairing and installing boat electronics.
WHAT IS RICKY'S PROUDEST MOMENT IN DARTS?
On the 12th October 2014 I won the inaugural disabled World Masters Championships in a wheelchair.
