Target's success comes from all different parts of the business working simultaneously together. A vital part is our accounts department who are constantly number crunching and counting beans behind the scenes.
A key #TeamTarget member from this team is our Financial Controller Victoria Hoskin. We video chatted to Vic to find out more about her role at Target as well as what motivates her every day.
How long have you worked at Target Darts?
5 years this June.
What does your job role entail?
Counting beans and making sure they end up in the right casserole. I have oversight of the company's financials. I make sure we account for everything accurately and report it to management. I manage the annual audit and preparation of the accounts. I also work with my colleagues in China and Japan to update them on business activities. For the last year or so I have been a key member of the team implementing a new accounting system.
Why did you choose to work at Target Darts?
I love the darts and working for a high profile brand like Target is great. The office is located close to where I live so I don't have to schlep into London on a train or risk the craziness of the M25 every day. Target is a family run business which compared to my previous role at a UK subsidiary of a USA based global giant is a much nicer environment to work in.
What makes Target Darts a great place to work?
I get great job satisfaction knowing I am making a difference. I have the freedom to make changes and improvements as well as working on some interesting projects.
How is Target Darts helping with your personal development?
We are constantly changing what we do and how we do it. I have to make sure activities are compliant with accounting and legal rules and regulations. I've worked on different projects over the last couple of years where I have had to learn on the job which has been great but challenging. The research and learning all goes towards the 40 hours of CPD (Continuing Professional Development) I have to do every year as a professional accountant.
What is your ultimate career goal?
Honestly? Just doing a good job, that I enjoy and get satisfaction from. I like to be busy and push myself.
Have you always been a darts fan? If not are you one now?
Always. I used to watch the likes of John Lowe and Eric Bristow on the TV with my dad back in the 80's
What is it like working in the darts industry?
It's great! Target are setting the pace of the industry with its new product innovations.
How do you keep up with the fast pace of this industry?
Work harder every day but look for ways to do things better, smarter, more efficiently and use system development if we can.
Favourite moment since working with Target Darts?
Going to Ally Pally for the first time (Rob v Phil, Final 2018)
