Stephen Bunting Looking At The CrowdStephen Bunting Looking At The Crowd

The 2025 Machineseeker European Championship is set to deliver another thrilling chapter in the world of professional darts. As the eighteenth edition of the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) European Championship, the tournament will feature the top players from the fourteen European Tour events competing for glory from 23 to 26 October 2025 at the Westfalenhallen in Dortmund, Germany.

Fans can expect world-class performances, high scores, and intense matchups as Europe’s finest darts players battle for one of the most prestigious titles in the PDC calendar. In a surprising turn of events, Ritchie Edhouse, who dominated the 2024 European Championship final with an impressive 11–3 win over Jermaine Wattimena, will not be part of the 2025 line up after failing to qualify. This makes him the first defending champion in the tournament’s history to miss the following edition, adding extra excitement and unpredictability to the 2025 PDC European Championship.

How do you qualify for the 2025 European Championship?

The 2025 Machineseeker European Championship will once again use the well-established qualification system that ensures only the best players from the PDC European Tour earn their place on the big stage. Qualification is determined through the European Tour Order of Merit, which is based entirely on the prize money won across the fourteen European Tour events held throughout the season.

Only the top 32 players on this Order of Merit will qualify for the European Championship, making every tournament and every leg of the European Tour crucial in the race for ranking points and prize earnings. This system rewards consistent performance, ensuring that the most in-form players from the season make it to Dortmund to compete for the prestigious title.

Once the top 32 players are confirmed, they are seeded and placed into a fixed knockout bracket. The top qualifier faces the 32nd seed, the second plays the 31st, and so on — setting the stage for thrilling early-round clashes and high-stakes matchups right from the start. This structure guarantees excitement from the opening match, as every player must prove their worth against Europe’s elite to advance toward championship glory.

Who are the past winners of the 2025 European Championship?

Since the inaugural European Championship in 2008, the title has been held by some of the biggest names in darts. Phil Taylor emphatically dominated the early years, winning the first four editions between 2008 and 2011.

Simon Whitlock followed in 2012, and Adrian Lewis took the title in 2013.

From 2014 to 2017, Michael van Gerwen asserted himself as one of the sport’s greats by winning four consecutive championships. After that stretch, winners became more varied: James Wade (2018), Rob Cross (2019), Peter Wright (2020), Rob Cross again (2021), Ross Smith (2022), Peter Wright once more (2023), and most recently Ritchie Edhouse, who lifted his first major title in the 2024 final.

Each champion has added a distinct chapter to the tournament’s history, making the European Championship not only a test of skill but also a showcase for both established legends and rising stars.
